As I woke up this morning to the first rainy and grey day in what feels like months ( we are blessed in Sydney with relentless sunny days:) -this understated yet luxurious Caviar bar in Finland's capital Helsinki- is the perfect feature for today's more monochrome mode.
The work of brilliant Finnish designer Joanna Laajisto, this small restaurant in the heart of the city serves caviar, oysters, champagne and vodka - in a stylish and very Scandinavian setting.
Keeping the existing floor tiles of what was previously a clothing store - the interiors was inspired by the cold Finnish winters and the existing grey colours of the floors. With streamlined furniture including Artek classics, its the simple details such as menu boards on pegs, the half painted grey wall and a series of commissioned artworks by local artist Eeva-Marie Piiparinen that bring it all together. Ceramic pendant lights by up and coming Finnish designer iina Vourivirta.
Helsinki is an amazing place with a small town feel yet packed with trendy cafes, bars and shops - definitely a must for anyone planning on visiting Scandinavia - I certainly cant wait to go back there!
